Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Director of Participatory Archiving Programs, the Participatory Archiving Project Manager supports the implementation of the Blackstone River Valley Participatory Archiving Project. The project is a community-based archiving and training initiative funded by the National Park Service and based in University Archives and Special Collections in the Joseph P. In collaboration with the Associate Director of Participatory Archiving Programs, the Participatory Archiving Project Manager will:

  • Recruit and manage relationships with partner communities, including project directors at anchor institutions and local planning teams
  • Develop and implement a remote training program for partner communities
  • Organize and implement an in-person training workshop
  • Write lesson plans, coordinate with guest speakers, build a comprehensive participatory archiving handbook for distribution to project partners, and manage the logistics of the grant project in its first year

Strong candidates will have experience with public history, project management, curriculum development, and building collaborative partnerships. We expect that candidates will have:

  • Knowledge of best practices related to adult learning and online teaching
  • Ability to meet deadlines, solve problems, and juggle complex projects with competing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with and manage diverse sets of stakeholders
  • Ability to attend regular in-person meetings on campus at UMass Boston and ability to travel to project sites in the Blackstone River Valley

Knowledge of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, or Blackstone River Valley history is a plus, but not required.

This is a part-time position with a total of 10 hours per week (450 hours total) over the course of 12 months. The rate is $30 per hour. The hours allocated for this role are flexible—it may be possible or necessary for the Project Manager to work more hours during some weeks and fewer hours during other weeks. This position covers project components in the first year of this three-year grant; depending on the Project Manager’s expertise and the needs of the project, there may be an opportunity to extend this position for an additional year.
