Job Description

Join our team at Behavioral Services of Louisiana, LLC, as a Child/Family Peer Support Specialist. We are a dedicated Family Support Organization that values the power of shared experiences and peer support. In this role, you will work closely with our clients, helping them develop treatment goals, improve their social skills, and manage the effects of psychiatric or emotional symptoms. You will be an integral part of our team, reporting to the Director of Operations and supervised by the Support Specialist Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual Peer Support Specialist services in the community.
  • Assist clients in developing treatment goals within the first 30 days of service.
  • Help clients restore and develop social and interpersonal skills.
  • Identify and enhance support networks, community awareness, and coping strategies.
  • Assist in the development of daily living skills.
  • Help clients manage the negative effects of psychiatric or emotional symptoms.
  • Assist clients in identifying and responding to triggers that lead to functional impairments.
  • Implement Peer Support Plan on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in collaborative meetings with Behavioral Health Services staff and other community supports.
  • Communicate client status regularly, including changes in mood, medical issues, and crisis situations.
  • Produce effective, clinical documentation of every contact with recipient.
  • Attend all office trainings and regular clinical supervision sessions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Self-identification as a current or former consumer of mental health services.
  • Minimum of 6 months in self-directed recovery within the last year.
  • Self-identification as a first degree family member.
  • Ability to use computer interface for documentation and billing purposes.
