We are seeking an Adjunct Faculty Instructor NAV 105 Introduction to Geopolitics (Capstone) – Fall I semester to support the U.S. Navy Community College (USNCC) Adjunct Faculty Support Services. This is a remote opportunity for a 1099 Contractor / Consultant role offering a flexible schedule. Each course requires a 10-week commitment, dedicating eight (8) hours per week. This includes orientation/onboarding, eight (8) weeks of instruction (six (6) hours per week for instruction plus two (2) office hours per week), and one (1) week for final grading and reporting. Instructors can teach up to two (2) courses per term; first-time instructors are limited to one (1) course per term. The Fall I term runs from August 10, 2026 through October 4, 2026.

So, what will the Adjunct Faculty Instructor at Terrestris do?

The Adjunct Faculty Instructor NAV 105 supports the U.S. Naval Community College (USNCC) by delivering high-quality, fully online asynchronous instruction to enlisted Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen pursuing college-level education. Faculty members teach Naval Studies and/or General Education courses that strengthen critical thinking, leadership, communication, and operational readiness while supporting the Navy's mission of developing a highly educated and mission-ready force.

USNCC courses are delivered through the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) in an 8-week online format. Faculty provide engaging instruction, evaluate student performance, facilitate discussions, and deliver timely, meaningful feedback while maintaining the highest standards of academic excellence and professionalism.

What does a typical day look like for an Adjunct Faculty Instructor?

You will:

  • Attend required onboarding and course orientation prior to teaching.
  • Prepare supplemental materials (no more than 10-15%) with current events and/or relevant past experiences for USNCC Dean and/or Associate Dean of the Academics Program approval; upload all materials onto USNCC LMS.
  • Teach assigned undergraduate-level online asynchronous courses in accordance with USNCC policies, syllabi, and instructional standards.
  • Deliver instruction using the USNCC Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) using the government-provided course shell that includes instructional materials, core lectures, assignments, rubrics, and threaded discussion topics.
  • Facilitate engaging online discussions that encourage critical thinking and active student participation.
  • Grade assignments, examinations, discussion posts, and projects using established grading rubrics.
  • Provide detailed written feedback that promotes student learning and academic success.
  • Monitor student progress throughout the course and proactively identify students who may be at academic risk.
  • Communicate regularly with students and respond to inquiries within established response time requirements.
  • Maintain weekly virtual office hours and additional flexible office hours as needed to support student success.
  • Prepare a weekly progress report.
  • Submit all grades and required documentation within prescribed deadlines.
  • Prepare end-of-course reports summarizing student performance and recommendations for course improvements.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and collaborate with Course Leads, Academic Affairs, and Student Services when required.
  • Maintain current knowledge within the assigned discipline through professional development, scholarship, research, or participation in professional organizations.
  • Ensure all instructional materials and supplemental content comply with USNCC academic policies, copyright requirements, and Department of the Navy standards.

What qualifications do you look for?

You might be the professional we're looking for if you have:

  • Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • A Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) in a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline.
  • Relevant military experience or similar experience in government, and/or working with military personnel;
  • Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level, with an emphasis on prior online teaching;
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (Blackboard or similar LMS).
  • Appropriate academic credentials and a record of scholarship/research consistent with the assigned teaching role.
  • Expertise in political science, comparative politics, international relations, and U.S. security studies.
  • Prior experience teaching introductory courses in world politics, global security studies, American foreign policy, and U.S. national security.

We are extra impressed by folks with:

  • Military service or civilian Department of Defense experience, particularly Department of the Navy, US Navy, US Marine Corps, or US Coast Guard.
  • Experience working with military personnel.
  • Extensive subject matter expertise in national security, military operations, leadership, history, government, public policy, or related disciplines.
